The big shows at yesterday's nominations announcement for the Prime-Time Emmy Awards were John Adams with 23 nods, 30 Rock with 17, and Mad Men with 16. Mad Men, Damages and Dexter made a little history -- they're the first basic cable shows nominated for Best Drama Series. They'll compete against three shows from the broadcast networks -- House, Lost and Boston Legal.
30 Rock will duke it out in the comedy series category with The Office, Two and a Half Men, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage.
In the lead acting categories, Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment), Hugh Laurie (House) and James Spader (Boston Legal) are up for Best Actor, Drama. On the woman's side, Glenn Close (Damages), Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer), Holly Hunter (Saving Grace), Sally Field (Brothers and Sisters) and Mariska Hargitay (Law and Order: Special Victims Unit) will battle it out.
Over in the world of laughs, Julia Louis-Dreyfus puts another nail in the coffin of the Seinfeld curse with a nod for Best Actress for The New Adventures of Old Christine. She'll compete against America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Christina Applegate (Samantha Who) and Mary Louise-Parker (Weeds). On the male side, Tony Shalhoub (Monk), Steve Carell (The Office), Charlie Sheen (Two and a Half Men) and Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies) go at it.
The 60th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live from Los Angeles on A-B-C on September 21st. |
