No Tom Hanks Allowed in Church

The Diocese of Rome has barred Tom Hanks from two of its most historic churches. It has nothing against the Oscar-winning actor -- it doesn't want anything to do with Angels and Demons, the DaVinci Code prequel being filmed there. Director Ron Howard was hoping to shoot scenes in the Santa Maria del Popolo and Santa Maria del Vittoria churches, which are dripping with artistic masterpieces. But a spokesman for the diocese says permission was denied because the movie "does not conform to our views... It's a film that treats religious issues in a way that contrasts with common religious sentiment." Though the prequel doesn't delve into whether Jesus was secretly married -- as The DaVinci Code does -- the spokesman insists "it's clear that the theme is similar." |
